Labiaplasty also known as labia surgery or vulva surgery, is a procedure that changes the shape and size of the labia minora (inner vaginal lips). Labiaplasty is generally performed to reduce the size of the labia minora and can also correct asymmetry.Dr. Taek Kim is a board certified gynecologist and cosmetic surgeon with more than 30 years experience. This combination gives him a unique ability to treat women’s issues with a high level of skill and compassion.

What to Expect

Labia surgery is performed under local anesthesia in a comfortable, private outpatient facility. Dr. Kim will use a laser to contour the labia, reducing its size, correcting asymmetry and/or removing pigmented areas for a more youthful appearance.

Is Labiaplasty Right For You?

Many women are unhappy with the appearance of the labia minora. Some women are born with a large labia minora, while other experience changes with age and/or childbirth. Whatever the cause, this issue can cause discomfort, embarrassment and even difficulty urinating. Common reasons for a labiaplasty include:

  • Pain, pulling or irritation during intercourse, exercise or other activity
  • Irritation with prolonged sitting or walking

Is Labiaplasty painful?

Labiaplasty is a procedure that most of our patients tolerate well. Dr. Kim will use a local anesthetic to relieve any pain during the procedure. Following the surgery, Dr. Kim may prescribe pain relievers and you may use cold packs in the area.

When can I return to work?

Most patients return to work in 5 to 7 days following their labiaplasty procedure.

When can I resume sex after labiaplasty?

Dr. Kim will recommend outline your expectations following your procedure. We generally ask that you abstain from intercourse for 8 weeks to give the area an opportunity to fully heal and rejuvenate.

Are there any risks associated with vaginal rejuvenation?

No surgery is risk free. Labiaplasty is a very safe and effective procedure. Risks and side effects are rare and mild. Choosing an experienced, board certified gynecologist will minimize these risks even further.
